Course Overview
The main aim of the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing is to enable candidates to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide hairdressing services.

Course Structure
The ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing is comprised of 11 modules.

Mandatory Modules Training Hours
Style and Dress Hair using a Variety of Techniques
Student will learn to prepare for styling service, use suitable consultation techniques to identify service objectives, evaluate the potential of the hair to achieve the desired style by identifying the influencing factors, provide clear recommendations to the client based on factors, select and use products, tools and equipment to achieve the desired look, position themselves and the client appropriately throughout the service, combine and adapt styling techniques to achieve the desired effects, personalize dressing techniques to take Into account influencing factors and create a finished style that is to the satisfaction of the client.

Cut Women’s Hair to Create a Variety of Looks
Student will learn to prepare for cutting hair, use suitable consultation techniques to identify service objectives, evaluate the potential of the hair to achieve the desired look by identifying influencing factors, provide clear recommendations to the client based on factors, select and use cutting tools and equipment required to achieve the desired look, establish and follow guidelines where required to achieve the required look, combine and personalize cutting techniques to take account of the identified factors and the desired look, Check the cut to ensure required balance, weight distribution and shape and create a finished cut that is to the satisfaction of the client.

Colour Hair to Create a Variety of Looks
Student will learn to prepare for colouring service, use suitable consultation techniques to identify service objectives, evaluate the potential of the hair to achieve the desired look by identifying influencing factors, carry out tests prior to and during the colouring process, recording the results, use pre-softening and pre-pigmenting when necessary, select and use colouring techniques, products, tools and equipment to colour the hair, monitor the development of the colour accurately following manufacturers’ instructions, remedy problems that may occur during the colouring process, check that the colour is thoroughly removed from the hair and scalp without disturbing any packages still requiring development, apply a suitable conditioner or post colour treatment to the hair following manufacturers’ instructions and create a finished look that is to the satisfaction of the client.

Hairdressing Consultation Support for Colleagues
Student will learn to provide consultation support to colleagues by communicating effectively with colleagues and their clients in a manner that maintains client goodwill, trust and confidentiality, deal with analysis problems reported by colleagues promptly, make sure client records are accurately completed, balance the clients’ requirements with salon resources, provide the type of support required for the reported analysis problems and provide clear recommendations based on client requirements and the outcome of analysis of the hair, skin and scalp.

Monitor and Maintain Health and Safety Practice in the salon
Student will be able to carry out a risk assessment and take necessary actions, monitor and support the work of others to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.

Human Resource Management
Student will learn to research Human Resource Management, undertsand the purpose of job descriptions, understand the purpose of contracts of employment, state methods of employment options and explain relevant employment legislation, rights and responsibilities and present a practical demonstration.

Promote Products and Services to Clients in the Salon
Student will learn how to promote products and services to the client by establish the client’s requirements, introduce services and/or products to the client at the suitable time, give accurate and relevant information to the client, identify buying signals and interpret the client’s intentions correctly, secure agreement with the client and close the sale.

Creative Hairdressing Design Skills
Student will be able to plan an image, identifying opportunities for creating a total look, research ideas for developing the image of the total look, create and provide a detailed design plan for the total look, evaluate the design plan, taking into considerations safety factors.

Perm Hair to Create a Variety of Looks
Student will learn to creatively perm the hair, evaluate the potential of the hair to achieve the desired look by identifying influencing factors, compare the range of perming products, tools and equipment and the effects produced. Student will also be able to monitor the development of the perming and neutralising processes, following manufacturer’s instructions and remedying any arising problems and using creative finishing techniques to achieve the desired effect.

Bridal Hairstyling
Student will be able to prepare for bridal hairstyling services, evaluate the clients existing hair length, texture and density, select and use hair styling products, tools and materials, ornamentation and added hair to achieve desired look and using added hair and hair pieces when styling bridal hair.

Hair Extension Services
Student will learn to evaluate the hair and scalp for suitability of hair extension services, perform all necessary preparation works, taking into considerations safety and influencing factors. Student will also learn to prepare the hair in suitable sections allowing the hair to fall into the direction required. Using suitable hair extension methods to meet the hair type being worked on following manufacturers’ instructions and lastly to remove hair extension using suitable removal methods for the type of extensions worn.

While on the course, you will take part in practical session working on blocks (mannequin heads) and later on will begin supervised practice with live models in the Contemporary Practical Area, applying what you have learnt in a fully equipped salon-school environment. Theory lessons that come alongside are conducted in the Lecture room.

Course Entry Requirement

  • Completed ITEC Level 2 Diploma / Certificate in Hairstyling or
  • Minimum 1 year salon experience as a Junior Hair Stylist

Graduation Requirement
Students are required to meet the following criteria in order to graduate and obtain their relevant diploma:

  • Must complete all 11 modules with at least 80% (90% for International students) in attendance
  • Able to perform 1 internal practical assessment to create an image with either cut and colour / cut and perm / upstyle
  • Complete project assignments
  • Complete theory assignments
  • Must achieve at least 80% in terms of live model requirement

    The fee is inclusive of a stage showcase and a photo shoot of your hair creation.
  • Locker Rental $13/month (Incl 7% GST)
    Rental fee applies to students who want to rent a trolley in the school and use it as personal
    storage. Rental fee is payable quarterly.
  • Trolley Rental $21/month (Incl 7% GST) –
    Rental fee applies to students who want to rent a locker in the school and use it as personal storage.
    Rental fee is payable quarterly.

Mode of Payment
All fees can be paid over the counter in cash or NETS. Payment with cheque should be made in favour of “Kimage Hairdressing School Pte Ltd”.

International Students
International students without valid passes must apply for 5 months student pass. For International Students on student pass, in the event that any of the following occurs, the school will inform ICA of the student’s attendance:

  • Student has failed to attend classes for a continuous period of 7 days or more without any valid reason; or
  • Student has not attended classes regularly, i.e. where the percentage of attendance is 90% or lower in any month of the course without any valid reason.
  • Student’s studies in the school has been terminated.

Material Fees
Material Fees of $1000 is compulsory for international students holding student passes. Material Fees cover costs of goods incurred by the students during their hands-on live model practical sessions throughout their course of study. Material fee is payable upon commencement of course.

Assessment
This qualification will be internally assessed and externally verified.

Each module consists of its own respective portfolio of evidences &/ project assignments, &/ MCQ assignment &/ Assessments. Assessments are internally assessed by our assessor using ITEC marking criteria. Assignments, Portfolio of evidences and MCQ assignments will be verified by ITEC examiner using ITEC grading system.

Internal Assessment
Before completion of the course, the following tasks have to be internally assessed.

  • Style and Dress Hair using a Variety of Techniques
  • Cut Woman’s Hair to Create a Variety of Looks
  • Colour Hair to Create a Variety of Looks

You have to register to sit for internal practical assessment. You are required to perform the above tasks on a live model. Students are responsible for their assessment live model.

Upon completion of the course, students will sit for the ITEC ASSESSMENT.
This qualification will be internally and externally assessed using the assessment of skills as set out below. Once all of the performance evidence documentation, assignments and underpinning knowledge have been completed, the Learner will have a Final Practical Test carried out by the Internal Assessor using the ITEC marking criteria and final assessment form. Assessor will also verify all performance evidence documentation and assignments. An ITEC External Verifier will also verify a sample of the performance evidence documentation and assignments.

Grading of the qualification

All assessment tasks required for each unit of the qualification must be completed and awarded a Pass mark before the complete qualification can be certificated

The overall qualification is graded – Pass – 60% – 74%, Merit – 75% – 89%, Distinction – 90%-100%. This is formed by the aggregate of the multiple-choice questions and the Final Practical Test.

Examination
At the end of the course, you can register for ITEC certification. An ITEC External Verifier will verify all components of the course – portfolio of evidences, project assignments, MCQ assignment & Internal Practical Assessments Records. Students are required to perform a final practical test on live mode during the day of the verification. The following tasks have to be performed on the live model.

  • Style and Dress Hair using a Variety of Techniques
  • Cut Woman’s Hair to Create a Variety of Looks
  • Colour Hair to Create a Variety of Looks

Students will be assessed by our assessor alongside the external verifier. Students are also required to sit for a theory test. There are 2 mediums of theory paper – English / Chinese.

Upon passing the external verification and passing the final practical & theory tests, you will receive the ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing.

An exam fee of $700 is payable upon commencement of the course.

There are only 2 series of ITEC certification – May/June and November/December. Students can only sit for June or December examination regardless of their course completion date. (example, students that complete their course in March, will have to wait till June to sit for their examination).

International students, upon completion of their course and expiration of their student pass, will have to return to their home country and make arrangement to come to Singapore for their scheduled examination.

Progression
At the end of the course, you will be able to use the knowledge and skill learned to enter the industry and take your place in the industry as a Qualified Stylist.

Course Awards
Upon meeting all School Graduation requirements and passing the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing, you will be awarded the Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing, by ITEC. In addition, you will also receive the Kimage Certificate upon passing the ITEC Examination.
