ABOUT NITEC
ITE Singapore was established as a post-secondary education institution in 1992 under the Ministry of Education. ITE is a principal provider of career and technical education and key developer of national occupational skills certification and standards to enhance Singapore’s workforce competitiveness. NITEC Courses are offered to students to be certified under the ITE NITEC Schemes.
COURSE OVERVIEW
In this course, you will learn haircutting and chemical techniques, to texturise and colour hair in line with the latest fashion trends. You will also learn to create glamorous upstyles for functions and events.
COURSE CONTENT: PRACTICAL
Duration: 720 hours
We offer various modes of study. You can refer to the following table for mode of study and its corresponding course duration.
*Practical sessions for chemical services such as rebonding, digital perm, highlighting, and bleaching, etc are only available from 10am-5pm.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The NITEC in Services – Hair Fashion & Design comprises of 6 compulsory modules.

Shampoo and Head Massage On completion of the module, students should be able to perform shampooing at basin, seated shampoo, massage scalp, neck and shoulder, and blow-dry hair. | 120 |
Basic Hairstyling On completion of the module, students should be able to style various length of hair ranging from short to long with the use of finishing styling products and tools such as blow-dryers, flat irons and curling tongs. | 120 |
Basic Haircutting On completion of the module, students should be able to perform basic blunt and layered haircuts. | 120 |
Basic Hair Colouring On completion of the module, students should be able to perform virgin hair colouring, grey hair colouring, and root and re-growth applications. | 120 |
Advanced Hair Colouring On completion of the module, students should be able to perform highlighting and lowlighting, bleach and tone hair, and basic hair colour correction. | 120 |
Hair Perming On completion of the module, students should be able to perform hair perming, and rebonding. | 120 |

While on the course, you will take part in practical session working on blocks (mannequin heads) and later on will begin supervised practice with live models in the Classic Practical Area, applying what you have learnt in a fully equipped salon-school environment. Theory lessons that come alongside are conducted in the Lecture room.
LEARNING OURCOME
Upon completion of the course, you would have acquired knowledge and skills which are highly relevant to the industry as follows:
- Provide customer service.
- Provide client consultation.
- Provide shampoo and head massage.
- Provide basic hairstyling.
- Process permanent waves and hair rebonding.
- Perform highlighting and creative hair colouring.

- Tool kits fee range from $520- $700 (incl 9% GST)
Tool kit fee refers to the complete set of tools that are needed to perform all the practical tasks in the course. Payable at point of purchase, which is the first day of class.
Example of Tool Kit Set – Scissors, Hair Dryer, Dolly Heads, Combs Rollers, Clips, School Apron.
- Exam Resit Fee ($255 per module) (Incl 9% GST)
Exam Resit Fee is payable at point of registering for NITEC examination and applies only to students who needs to resit theory or practical examination.

- Locker Rental $13/month (Incl 9% GST) or Trolley Rental $21/month (Incl 9% GST)
Rental fee applies to students who want to rent a locker or trolley in the school and use it as personal storage. Rental fee is payable quarterly.
MATERIAL FEES
Material Fees of $1200 is compulsory for international students holding student passes. Material Fees cover costs of goods incurred by the students during their hands-on live model practical sessions throughout their course of study.
Material fee is payable upon commencement of course.
Examination
This qualification will be externally verified with the following Grading System.
Award of Certification
The award of full certification in NITEC in Services – Hair Fashion & Design is based on acquiring a minimum of 30 credits.
Mode of Assessment
For each module, the score obtained from end-of-module assessment contributes to the final score.
- Written Assessment
Students are also required to sit for a theory test. There are 2 mediums of theory paper – English / Chinese. For written assessments, the pass mark of a module is 50%. - Practical Assessment
For the overall practical assessments, they must cover at least 75% of the competencies in each module. The pass mark of a module is 50%. Candidates are also required to pass all critical skills/criteria in the Skills Standard.

* As a guide, Distinction grade is awarded up to the top 5% of the Technical Engineer Diploma, Higher Nitec and Nitec students who sat for the module (excludes attrited, deferred, debarred students and students absent from all assignment items) and obtained Grade ‘A’. The Distinction grade is not applicable to the On-the-job Training (OJT), Industry Attachment (IA) [except Clinical Practice I & II], and Life Skills modules, as well as other modules graded Pass/Fail or Satisfactory/ Unsatisfactory.
Examination Dates
Our school runs the NITEC examination in June and December. International students, upon completion of their course and expiration of their student pass, will have to return to their home country and make arrangement to come to Singapore for their scheduled examination.

Appeal for Examination Results
Examination results will be released 8 weeks from the last day of examination. Licensee candidates apply to ITE Customer Service Centre (CSC) to review exam results within 9 working days from the issue of Statement of Results. Upon application, candidates must pay a deposit of S$20 per module for review of exam results. Appellants will be informed the outcome of their appeal via Licensee. For candidates who are successful in their appeals, ITEES will issue the new Statement of Results and certificates to candidates and also refund deposit to appellants.
